Wild Ideas FAQ

Home > Temple Questions > Spiritual Therianthropy

Is this the same thing as having a totem animal?

Not precisely, though the distinction is somewhat subjective. Many therians do work with totem animals as well, and often these are animals other than the one they consider their own animal affinity. The way many people have explained it is this: a totem animal bond is primarily external - a relationship with another being. Being a therianthrope is primary internal - a dimension of who you are.
